As one of the most recognizable names in hip-hop, Sean “Diddy” Combs—better known as P. Diddy—established a star-studded network across the music, film, fashion, and business worlds. His influence was unmatched in the late ’90s and 2000s, when he began hosting his famously extravagant White Parties—exclusive, star-studded events defined by a strict all-white dress code and no shortage of luxury.
In a 2006 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Diddy explained that the purpose was to “strip away everyone’s image and put us all in the same color, on the same level.” Martha Stewart, who attended the inaugural party, called it a “stunning sight.”
Initially held in the Hamptons, the White Party became one of the most coveted invites in entertainment until it paused in 2009. But now, in 2025, Diddy is in federal custody in New York as his highly publicized trial on charges of sex sex trafficking and racketeering gets underway. With additional civil lawsuits accusing him of abuse and misconduct, the legacy of those iconic parties—and the celebrity circles that surrounded them—is being reexamined under a much darker lens.

Paris Hilton once reflected on the parties, saying, “I remember the first party he threw in the Hamptons. It was iconic, and everyone was there.”
