The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives<\/em><\/a> star Layla Taylor<\/strong><\/a> broke her silence about concern over her weight \u2014 and opened up about her past mental health struggles that led to self-harm and attempts to take her own life.<\/p>\n

During the Hulu special, which started streaming on Tuesday, July 1, host Nick Viall<\/strong> revealed that Layla, 24, spoke out about her issues that never aired on the show. A never-before-scene clip showed Layla addressing comments<\/a> about her body.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been skinny my whole life though. I feel like everyone\u2019s concerned right now but I\u2019ve been skinny my whole entire life,\u201d Layla told Demi Engemann<\/strong> before confirming she still has issues with body dysmorphia. \u201cIt\u2019s like when you guys tell me, \u201cOh, you used to look like a healthy weight.\u2019 When you have an eating disorder, the word \u2018healthy\u2019 triggers me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Layla said being told she looks \u201ctiny\u201d encourages her eating disorder, adding, \u201cFor some reason, in my twisted brain I think I am going down the right track. That gives me an endorphin rush. \u2029Also just living in Utah, the need to chase perfection \u2014 when it\u2019s not attainable \u2014 is such a bad thing here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Secret Lives of Mormon Wives fans have watched the cast change on and off screen before the series even debuted. Season 1 of hit reality series, which follows a group of Mormon mom influencers, debuted on Hulu in September 2024 following star Taylor Frankie Paul\u2018s \u201csoft swinging\u201d sex scandal. \u201cWe\u2019re not all swingers,\u201d Whitney [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While opening up to Demi, 30, Layla showed her scars on her wrists from past self-harm attempts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re kind of visible but they\u2019re not too bad. I feel like I\u2019m more insecure about those and it\u2019s just an image thing here,\u201d she continued. \u201cBecause someone looks at them and they don\u2019t recognize what I\u2019ve struggled with. \u2029They look at me and they judge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Layla started to cry at the reunion while elaborating on<\/a> her mental health journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a hard thing for me to talk about. I\u2019ve dealt with really bad depression and anxiety my whole entire life. I have attempted to take my life multiple times and thought that I\u2019d be better off dead than living the life that I do,\u201d she told her costars, who were visibly emotional. \u201cIt just goes back to just never feeling like I\u2019m enough. I was told that a lot growing up. That\u2019s why I self-harm too.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Nick, 44, asked how Layla is doing now, she confirmed that she has been \u201cbetter\u201d in recent months.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t self-harmed in a long time, which is good. I got my scars removed and I\u2019m trying to move past that. One of the reasons why I wanted to get my scars removed is because my boys noticed it too,\u201d Layla, who shares two sons with ex-husband Clayton Wessel<\/strong><\/a>, recalled. \u201cI was like, \u2018That\u2019s not me just falling. \u2029That was me doing something to myself.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cMy kids noticed it and it could affect them. So that\u2019s what snapped me out of it and got me to stop. I don\u2019t want to give my kids traumas because I\u2019m dealing with it and I need to be strong for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayci Neeley<\/strong>\u2019s husband, Jacob Neeley<\/strong>, was noticeably affected by what Layla shared. When asked by Nick why he was crying, Jacob said he was thinking about his and Mayci\u2019s children.<\/a><\/p>\n
