He doesn\u2019t really need any advice from any of us. If anything, I\u2019m such a big fan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Baylee delighted Backstreet Boys fans when he joined the latest season of <em>American Idol<\/em>, singing both original songs and renditions of his famous father\u2019s work. I\u2019m just glad I got through it.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DKu7n4zheW9\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>McLean \u2014 who sang alongside Brian, <strong>Nick Carter<\/strong>, <strong>Kevin Richardson<\/strong> and <strong>Howie Dorough<\/strong> in the beloved early aughts band \u2014 told Us that he is \u201calways going to root\u201d for Baylee as he takes his next, post-<em>American Idol<\/em> steps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast time I was in Georgia, I was in the studio with T-Pain working on my solo project and I went to Brian\u2019s house just to kind of kick it, and Baylee sat there and played 15 songs, all different types of music,\u201d he continued. \u201cI mean, he\u2019s got a catalog of probably three to 400 songs he\u2019s written that are all insanely good. He knows what he wants and he knows what\u2019s right and wrong. He\u2019s seen his dad go through it; his uncles go through it. The 22-year-old\u2019s audition was shown during the Sunday, March 9, premiere of the singing competition\u2019s 23rd season. New judge Carrie Underwood said she noticed something \u201cfamiliar\u201d about Baylee before he revealed his dad\u2019s identity. \u201cYou must forgive me, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt was hard to make friends, and it was hard for people to understand me because a lot of people, they did have preconceived notions of how I would be,\u201d he explained at the time. \u201cAnd that\u2019s one of the emotional parts of leaving \u2014 finally people get to see who you are. And finally we kind of set our differences aside or our assumptions of each other and all just started to bond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the challenges, Baylee told <em>Us<\/em> he had \u201ca great experience\u201d on the show.
