The movie, which was directed by Davis’s then-husband, was meant to make Davis an action star; it did the opposite. But Elizabeth Shue’s performance somehow makes it worse, playing the character as a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/1999\/10\/22\/shue-sure-doesnt-shine-in-molly\/\" target=\"_blank\">caricature<\/a>. Shue’s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000223\/\" target=\"_blank\">next few<\/a> major roles were in a few <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/1132572-leo\" target=\"_blank\">poorly-<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/hollow_man\" target=\"_blank\">received<\/a> films, a TV movie, a narrator role, and a small role in an indie. He had two starring roles: in <i>Kiss of Death<\/i> and <i>Jade<\/i>. Lautner went from being the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fandango.com\/movie-news\/taylor-lautner-is-hollywoods-highest-paid-teenage-actor-587657\" target=\"_blank\">highest-paid teenager in Hollywood<\/a> to a TV star working on and off. Instead, <i>John Carter<\/i> became <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/john-carter-movie-history-why-it-failed\/\" target=\"_blank\">one<\/a> of the largest box office failures of all time, followed quickly by <i>Battleship<\/i>, which didn’t fare as terribly but was certainly no hit. However, Shaq kept at it with the family film and box office bomb <i>Kazaam<\/i> and then the superhero film <i>Steel<\/i>. <i>Steel,<\/i> referred to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inverse.com\/culture\/steel-25-year-anniversary\" target=\"_blank\">by some<\/a> as the “worst superhero movie of all time,” received only 12% on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/1078035-steel\" target=\"_blank\">Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> and proved the final straw for Shaq’s floundering film career. Seriously, I never thought I could act, but I knew I could sing.
