Warner opened up about their marriage a few times throughout his life. Just two months before his death, Warner appeared on the \u201cHot & Bothered<\/a>\u201d podcast, where he talked about meeting his wife and how she changed his mind about having children.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t sure if I would ever get married or have kids,\u201d Warner explained. \u201cI think because growing up, I knew \u2026 myself well enough to know that I was not going to get married and give a woman half of my s**t \u2019cause I f**ked up. I spent more of my adult life in long-term relationships than not.\u201d<\/p>\n

That all changed when Warner met his wife, and the two enjoyed a slow-burn romance.<\/p>\n

Warner pointed out during his May 2025 \u201cHot & Bothered\u201d podcast appearance that he met his wife through a mutual friend.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, after being in a relationship for six years, I spent the next two years like a man who had been in a relationship for six years. \u2026 I went on this hiatus, like I was cold turkey \u2014 like not dating, not relationships, mostly not sex,\u201d the late 9-1-1<\/em> actor explained. \u201cSo, I was in this space, and I met my wife through a mutual friend. And because I was on this hiatus, I was like, \u2018I\u2019m not really dating.\u2019 And our mutual friend was like, \u2018Well one date won\u2019t hurt. You know, she could be a really cool friend or a really cool spiritual connect.\u2019 I was like, \u2018That\u2019s cool.’\u201d<\/p>\n

After being \u201cat peace with not having kids,\u201d Warner recalled his future wife telling him on their first date, \u201cI\u2019m definitely having kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, it was great. We are not on the same page at all,\u201d he cheekily added about their meet-cute. \u201cThis will not turn into anything. We could actually just be friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, just five and a half months later, Malcolm-Jamal asked his future wife for her thoughts about starting a family.<\/p>\n
