In Nightbitch<\/em>, Amy Adams<\/strong><\/a> plays a mother who is feeling powerless \u2014 her husband\u2019s work schedule keeps him traveling often, leaving her as the sole caretaker for their toddler. The mix of frustration, rage and love she feels becomes so potent that it actually transforms her physically.<\/p>\n

As she embraces her new, feral instincts, the Mother (who is never named in the film) begins to influence the other moms in her community. Directed by Marielle Heller<\/strong> (The Diary of a Teenage Girl, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood<\/em>) and based on the 2021 novel by Rachel Yoder<\/strong>, Nightbitch<\/em> is a playfully horrifying examination of motherhood, community and child-rearing.<\/p>\n

IRS auditor Harold Crick (Will Ferrell<\/strong>) is a creature of habit who never strays from his routine \u2014 until he hears a narrator\u2019s voice (Emma Thompson<\/strong><\/a>) explaining that he is about to die. As he works frantically to try to find the source of the voice, he learns that he is the protagonist of a novel and has no control over his own destiny. Accepting his fate, Harold finally begins to live his life to the fullest.<\/p>\n

A rare, more dramatic role for Ferrell that he pulls off with aplomb, Stranger Than Fiction<\/em> is nonetheless a funny, quirky and clever film. With a supporting cast that includes Dustin Hoffman, Maggie Gyllenhaal<\/a><\/strong> and Queen Latifah<\/strong>, it\u2019s a sweet story about lives worth living and stories worth telling.<\/p>\n
