Connie Britton<\/strong><\/a> knows that it takes a village to raise a child. Luckily, her village is filled with some pretty strong single mothers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think a lot about Charlize [Theron]<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d Britton told Us Weekly<\/em> exclusively while discussing her new Hallmark Channel reality series, The Motherhood<\/em>. \u201cCharlize and I are both single moms and actually both have adopted kids. So it was really helpful to talk to her kind of in the early days. She\u2019s just such a badass and she is so, so brave as a mother.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Britton, 58, can\u2019t pinpoint an exact moment with Theron, 49, that helped her through some of the more challenging parenting moments, she explained that Theron\u2019s overall energy as a mom guided her following her 2011 adoption of son Eyob \u201cYoby,\u201d now 14, from Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t think of a specific thing that she told me but just watching her in action made me feel like you can do it and you can still have a strong sense of self and you can still raise your kids and let them feel completely supported and completely parented and completely seen \u2014 and you can do the same for yourself. You know, she really set that example for me,\u201d Britton gushed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd she is super close to her mom [Gerda Maritz<\/strong><\/a>],\u201d she added of Theron, who adopted her children Jackson and August<\/a>\u00a0in 2012 and 2015, respectively. \u201cI know her mom has always been a really strong support for her in her life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Britton is very aware of how difficult it can be to raise children without a partner. (She has been dating<\/a> David Windsor<\/strong> since 2020, telling Andy Cohen<\/strong> in 2023, \u201cI have an amazing man in my life now and he is definitely stepping into that more paternal role.\u201d) When she first became a mother, the actress was single and busy starring as Rayna James on Nashville<\/em>. She felt completely overwhelmed by the early years of motherhood and her jam-packed work schedule.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just went off to Nashville and started shooting the show, and I had this baby and I didn\u2019t even really know how to be a mother yet,\u201d she explained to Us<\/em>. \u201cIt was kind of traumatizing because I had no support system in Nashville<\/em>, and I was working, you know, sometimes 15, 16, 17 hours a day, and it was a lot of work. I realized that that was one of the things that still sticks out to me is when you first become a parent, the learning curve of, \u2018Oh, I need to think about things differently now and I need to make choices differently now because now I am thinking for a whole other person who can\u2019t think for themselves.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The White Lotus<\/em> star added that the experience made her more picky choosing future work-related projects. She also insisted that moms in the Hollywood industry who stick together are the true heroes.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo continue working in this business as a mom or as a single mom, we have to support each other. And it just feels to me when I see a fellow mom, a fellow working mom out doing the thing, it\u2019s almost like we have a secret handshake thing, and it\u2019s kind of like, \u2018I see you girl, I get you girl,\u2019\u201d she explained. \u201cYou know? Where you\u2019re doing it. You\u2019re doing the thing, and I\u2019m here to lift you up however I can.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her own experience as a single mom led her to create The Motherhood<\/em><\/a>, which follows her as she connects with another single mom who is juggling the demands of work, parenting and self-care. Over the course of a transformative week, Britton and three expert coaches \u2014 DIY and home design specialist Angela Rose<\/strong>, positive parenting coach Destini Ann<\/strong> and style expert Taryn Hicks<\/strong> \u2014 help the mom find peace and harmony in her life.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I became a single mom, it was kind of a big awakening for me where I realized, like, \u2018Whoa, this is no joke.\u2019 Obviously being a parent period is a big, big transition and a big change in life, but doing it by yourself is kind of a whole other thing,\u201d Britton told Us<\/em>. \u201cAnd so I learned in that process how important having a community is and a support system. I started thinking, \u2018Gosh, I\u2019m one of the lucky ones. I am able to have help when I need it. And so many single moms and single parents in the world don\u2019t have the privilege of that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tConnie Britton usually stays mum when it comes to her personal life, but she\u2019s now sharing some rare insight into her relationship with boyfriend David Windsor. In a new interview with Parade published on Friday, March 14, Britton, 58, opened up about her five-year \u201cpartnership\u201d with television producer Windsor, and how their relationship continues to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As for producing and hosting The Motherhood<\/em>, Britton said she not only wanted to create a support system for single parents but \u201creally change the cultural perspective on how we think of them and to really understand that they\u2019re doing heroic work and should be treated as such in the culture.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cI\u2019m hopeful that this show is going to kind of help contribute to reshaping how we think about single parents and maybe look out for each other a little bit more in our communities and say, \u2018Oh, I would love to lend a hand to this person.\u2019 As they say, it takes a village, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n

Britton has learned a lot from making The Motherhood<\/em> \u2014 including the importance of continuing to carve out time for herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always have to remind myself just how important it is \u2014 no matter how busy you are, working your job to pay the bills and also raising a child, and giving them everything they need \u2014 to carve out time for yourself, and that that\u2019s actually beneficial for everyone, including your child,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I think that\u2019s such a struggle, especially for single moms, because they feel like, \u2018Oh, I don\u2019t wanna buy myself something nice,\u2019 or, \u2018I don\u2019t wanna take time for myself because that\u2019s taking time away from my responsibilities as a mother.\u2019 And, in fact, it\u2019s actually rejuvenating. And also it allows your child to see, like, \u2018Oh, you\u2019re taking care of yourself as well. You\u2019re not just sacrificing yourself to take care of me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress said she\u2019s blessed to have \u201ca wonderful son\u201d whom she\u2019s so proud to see grow into a respectful young man.<\/p>\n
