We were in the throes of COVID-19, the <a href=\"https:\/\/cepr.net\/publications\/the-great-economy-trump-left-biden\" target=\"_blank\">unemployment rate was 6.4%<\/a>, but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cepr.net\/publications\/the-great-economy-trump-left-biden\" target=\"_blank\">gas prices had previously fallen<\/a> as people feared leaving far from home and commuted less before return-to-office orders. At the same time,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalreserve.gov\/econres\/notes\/feds-notes\/business-entry-and-exit-in-the-covid-19-pandemic-a-preliminary-look-at-official-data-20220506.html\" target=\"_blank\">businesses also shuttered.\u00a0<\/a>It was all very <i>new and strange.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p>By the time Joe left \u2014shortly after the US government officially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/04\/11\/1169191865\/biden-ends-covid-national-emergency\" target=\"_blank\">declared<\/a> an end to the COVID-19 pandemic\u00a0\u2014 he had become the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/01\/19\/economy\/us-biden-economic-legacy\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">first US president to see monthly gains in employment throughout his entire presidency,<\/a> and unemployment saw a 54-year low in 2023. However, <b>it&#8217;s undeniable that his presidency also saw <i>inflation, inflation, inflation.<\/i><\/b> And just as Trump&#8217;s lower cost of living can be partially attributed to the pandemic&#8217;s aftershock, so, too, can the later call-and-response rise in cost of living, experts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/01\/19\/economy\/us-biden-economic-legacy\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">say<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>TLDR: The pandemic partially caused wins and losses for both Trump and Biden.
