The hits just keep on coming for the Los Angeles Lakers<\/a>. First, they lose in the opening round of the NBA<\/a> playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves<\/a>, despite being the higher seed. Then, superstar LeBron James<\/a> injured himself in that game, in a way that it turned out would have kept him out of the playoffs for a bit had the Lakers stayed alive.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And now, the Lakers have lost their Met Gala representation thanks to that same injury. James broke the news<\/a> himself on X, saying that, “Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won\u2019t be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on!”<\/p>\n

James sprained his MCL in the fourth quarter<\/a> of Game 5 and briefly exited, but returned to play the final 7:23 of regulation. A postgame medical analysis revealed that there was more to the injury than initially believed, to the point that James’ record streak of 292 consecutive postseason games played across his 22 seasons would have ended with a missed Game 6, if there had been one on the schedule. He’s never missed a playoff game with an injury before, and now he still hasn’t.<\/p>\n

The Met Gala, however? LeBron James has now missed one of those despite the invite, so it’s time to reset that counter. Thankfully, his family will still be represented there, even in his absence. And no, not by Bronny James<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“Hate to miss an historical event!” James posted on X. “My beautiful powerful Queen will be there holding the castle down as she always has done!”<\/p>\n
