Hours before the event on April 28, Mellencamp took to Instagram to open up about her scars, sharing that she \u201ccried\u201d when she first saw them<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s been 76 days since I went to the ER with unbearable headaches<\/a> and quickly found out I had multiple stage 4 tumors, the size of plums\u2019 in my brain and lungs,\u201d she wrote at the time. \u201cMelanoma had metastasized there and been there for \u20186 months to a year\u2019 and we had no clue.\u201d<\/p>\nMellencamp continued: \u201cWhen I first looked at this picture, at the scars on my head and my arm, I cried. Then, I felt a warmness rush through my body and felt so much peace. Peace from the incredible support system I have in my family and friends.
