John Foster<\/strong> became a breakout star on Season 23 of American Idol<\/em><\/a>, winning over viewers with his rich vocals and classic country charm. After delivering weeks of emotional performances and earning strong support from viewers, the 18-year-old finished as the runner-up in the May 2025 finale.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s From Louisiana<\/h2>\n

Foster grew up in Addis, Louisiana, a small town in West Baton Rouge Parish, where he worked at his family\u2019s meat market before auditioning for American Idol<\/em>. A graduate of Brusly High School, he brought pride to his hometown with his performances on the show. His journey was celebrated with a hometown parade and concert, where he performed on a crawfish float and sang along the bayou.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s a Biology Student at LSU<\/h2>\n

While competing on American Idol<\/em>, Foster remained committed to his education as a biology major at Louisiana State University.<\/span><\/p>\n

He Sang an Original Tribute on American Idol<\/em><\/h2>\n

In a heartfelt moment during the Top 20 round, Foster performed his original song, \u201cTell That Angel I Love Her,\u201d dedicated to his late friend Maggie Dunn<\/strong>, who tragically died in a car accident in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

He Performed Country Classics on American Idol<\/em><\/h2>\n

Foster showcased his country roots throughout the competition.<\/span> Notably, in the finale, he performed Toby Keith<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cCourtesy of the Red, White and Blue\u201d and John Denver<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cTake Me Home, Country Roads.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Judge Carrie Underwood<\/strong> <\/a>expressed deep admiration for Foster, especially after his performance of Randy Travis<\/strong>\u2018 \u201cI Told You So,\u201d a song she had previously covered.<\/p>\n

Underwood also shared on social media after his March audition, \u201cI absolutely love John Foster!!! He looks and sounds like a 90s Country superstar!!! AND we all know that was the PRIME era of Country! I can\u2019t wait to see what he does and what America thinks.\u201d<\/p>\n
