HBO is pulling off a magic trick with its upcoming television adaptation of Harry Potter<\/em><\/a>. Now that the famous wizard world is coming to the small screen, fans have learned who will be playing some of the adult characters at Hogwarts, including Dumbledore and Snape.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are happy to announce the casting of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer<\/a>, Paapa Essiedu<\/a>, Nick Frost<\/a>, Luke Thallon <\/strong>and Paul Whitehouse<\/strong><\/a> to play Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell and Filch,\u201d showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner and director and EP Mark Mylod said in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can\u2019t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life.\u201d<\/p>\n

HBO has described the TV series as a\u00a0\u201cfaithful adaptation\u201d of J.K. Rowling<\/strong>\u2018s books. \u201cExploring every corner of the wizarding world, each season will bring Harry Potter<\/em> and its incredible adventures to new and existing audiences,\u201d the description reads.<\/p>\n

In May 2025, the show finally found its main cast to play Harry, Ron and Hermione: Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout<\/strong> and Arabella Stanton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

John Lithgow \u2013 Albus Dumbledore<\/h2>\n

John has been seen in countless film projects throughout his decades-long acting career. Among his most popular roles were in The World According to Garp, Terms of Endearment, Footloose, A Civil Action, Shrek, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Interstellar, Bombshell, Killers of the Flower Moon<\/em> and, his latest Oscar winner, Conclave<\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Janet McTeer \u2013 Minerva McGonagall<\/h2>\n

Janet has established herself as a successful film actress, having appeared in a variety of movies. Among her most famous performances were in Tumbleweeds, Carrington, As You Like It, The Divergent Series<\/em> and The Menu<\/em>. On TV, Janet has appeared in Into the Storm, The White Queen<\/em> and Ozark<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Paapa Essiedu \u2013 Severus Snape<\/h2>\n

Paapa is an esteemed actor known for various TV roles, including in the shows I May Destroy You, Ann Boleyn, Gangs of London, The Lazarus Project<\/em> and Black Mirror: Demon 79.<\/em><\/p>\n

The London native attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.<\/p>\n

Nick Frost \u2013 Rubeus Hagrid<\/h2>\n

In addition to acting, Nick is also a comedian and screenwriter. The English actor is best known for his performances in the films Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz<\/em> and The World\u2019s End<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Luke Thallon \u2013 Quirinus Quirrell<\/h2>\n

Like Paapa, Luke is also a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He had an uncredited minor role in The Favourite<\/em> and has appeared in various theatrical productions, including The Room, Family Voices<\/em> and Leopoldstadt<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Paul Whitehouse \u2013 Argus Filch<\/h2>\n

Paul is a jack of all trades in the business, as he is an actor, comedian, writer and presenter. He\u2019s recognized for his performances in the movies Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland<\/em> and The Death of Stalin<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Arabella Stanton \u2013 Hermione Granger<\/h2>\n

Arabella got her big break in the West End production of Matilda: The Musical,<\/em> playing the titular character.<\/p>\n

Dominic McLaughlin \u2013 Harry Potter<\/h2>\n

Like his other main co-stars, Dominic is a newcomer, but he landed a gig in the upcoming Sky comedy Grow<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Alastair Stout \u2013 Ron Weasley<\/h2>\n

Alastair is playing Ron, and this is his first film role. He, Dominic and Arabella were cast out of 30,000 actors who auditioned.<\/p>\n
