Jane Fonda<\/strong><\/a> would have loved to have an intimacy coordinator during the early days of her career.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time you begin a movie, you have training. What to do if there\u2019s a problem. That never happened,\u201d the actress, 87, said to Women\u2019s Wear Daily<\/em><\/a> on Saturday, May 24, while attending the 2025 Cannes Film Festival<\/a>. \u201cThe other thing, they\u2019re called intimacy coordinators. I wish we had them while I was doing sex scenes because it\u2019s hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fonda noted that filming those more risqu\u00e9 moments can be tough to navigate for the actors performing the scenes<\/a>. The Oscar winner explained that in the past she found it difficult to stay in a scene while also, for instance, having to remind her costar not to \u201cuncover\u201d a potion of her \u201cbreast.\u201d<\/p>\n

An intimacy coordinator<\/a> role has become a standard practice in the TV and film industry following the Me Too movement. The intimacy coordinator typically works with actors and directors to ensure that NSFW scenes are handled safely and ethically. The coordinator choreographs intimate scenes, facilitates communication and provides support to actors during the process.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tGwyneth Paltrow is receiving some pushback following her comments about intimacy coordinators. Caroline Hollick, a film producer and executive, slammed Paltrow\u2019s nonchalant stance about using an intimacy coordinator for her upcoming film with Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet. Hollick addressed the remarks during a panel titled \u201cLet\u2019s Talk About Sex! (And Consent)\u201d at the drama festival Series Mania [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time that Fonda has publicly shared her support for intimacy coordinators and how she wished their support was available in the past.<\/p>\n

During a 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/em>, Fonda confessed that having an intimacy coordinator in her corner would have helped her in some of her more uncomfortable moments while filming.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a difference it would\u2019ve made in terms of my comfort,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cI missed out on that one. It\u2019s hard even to describe the difference when you\u2019re the only [woman] on a set, literally the only.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Fonda wishes that she had the opportunity to work with an intimacy coordinator, there are others in the industry who don\u2019t share her sentiments. Earlier this year, Gwyneth Paltrow<\/strong> made headlines for her comments about the use of intimacy coordinators for her and Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/strong>\u2019s upcoming movie<\/a>, Marty Supreme<\/em>.<\/p>\n
