Gracie Abrams<\/strong> is only 25 years old and already won New Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards in 2025. Not only that, but she was also previously nominated for a Grammy Award in 2024 for Best New Artist after releasing her album, <\/span>Good Riddance<\/span>, in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

The recording artist has gone on tour with two of the biggest superstars in music. Gracie was an opening act on Olivia Rodrigo<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s 2022 Sour Tour<\/em> that ran from April 2022 to July 2022. Then, in 2023, Gracie <\/span>opened for over a dozen shows on the first U.S. leg of Taylor Swift<\/strong>\u2018<\/a>s Eras Tour<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Gracie Is a Singer-Songwriter<\/h2>\n

Gracie Madigan Abrams, born September 7, 1999, is an American singer-songwriter. She released her debut single, \u201cMean It,\u201d in 2019 and followed it up with \u201cStay.\u201d In 2020, she released her debut ep, Minor<\/em>, which included songs, \u201cLong Sleeves,\u201d \u201cFriend,\u201d \u201cI Miss You, I\u2019m Sorry\u2019 and more. She promoted the release with appearances on late-night shows and continued to work on her career during the pandemic months. She teamed up with Benny Blanco <\/strong>for his Friends Keep Secrets 2 <\/em>album, joining him on the single, \u201cUnlearn.\u201d In 2021, she also released Mess It Up,\u201d \u201cFeels Like,\u201d and \u201cRockland,\u201d a song she wrote with Aaron Dresser<\/strong> (the member of The National <\/strong>who co-wrote and produced Taylor Swift\u2019s\u00a0folklore <\/em>and evermore<\/em>.). In 2023, Gracie released her album Good Riddance<\/em>, which earned her a Grammy<\/a> nomination at the 2024 awards show.<\/p>\n

Gracie\u2019s Dad Is Filmmaker J.J. Abrams<\/h2>\n

Gracie is the daughter of J.J. Abrams <\/strong><\/a>and Katie McGrath<\/strong>. J.J. is best known for directing movies like Cloverfield, Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/em>, the 2009 Star Trek <\/em>reboot, and more. He also has created Alias, Lost, <\/em>and Fringe<\/em> and had his hand in several other projects. Katie is also a producer, as she\u2019s worked with her and JJ\u2019s Bad Robots Productions company, as well as the Katie McGrath & JJ Abrams Family Foundation.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven the slight knowledge that I had of it growing up as a kid made me want to have nothing to do with it at all,\u201d Gracie said of her parents\u2019 business in an interview with Riff Magazine<\/a><\/em>. \u201cWhen I started falling in love with music independent of all other factors in my life, it was kind of a happy surprise, just because I actively tried to avoid anything that they were involved in. I\u2014with love\u2014wanted nothing to do with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gracie Is a Multi-talented Musician<\/h2>\n

At age 8, Gracie signed up for drumming classes. She then learned piano, then guitar, finding them more conducive to her songwriting. Her protective parents only allowed her to post the music to her SoundCloud and required that she keep her Instagram private. When she made the account public, her career took off \u2013 and it led to some amazing connections. Lorde <\/strong><\/a>even DM\u2019d Gracie, asking for a download of one of her songs.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe definitely is an artist in my life that I will forever feel like I owe everything to,\u201d Gracie told Riff<\/em> when talking about Lorde. \u201cSonically and thematically, [Pure Heroine<\/em>] changed my life. I remember being with my family in the living room, and I refresh my Instagram and see that she followed me. I had a crazy physical reaction, like, sweating immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n

Olivia Rodrigo Is A Huge Fan Of Gracie<\/h2>\n

\u201cOne of my favorite artists and one of the coolest people ever is Gracie Abrams, who just came out with her debut EP a couple of months ago,\u201d Olivia told Apple Music\u2019s Zane Lowe in January 2021 (per ET Canada<\/a>)<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s called Minor,<\/em> and she\u2019s absolutely amazing, love that entire record. She\u2019s signed to my same record label, so they\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, we\u2019ll have you meet.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018I literally don\u2019t think I can meet her. I think I would just evaporate. I\u2019m her biggest fan.\u2019 I\u2019ve heard the best things, and I\u2019ve been DMing her on Instagram, and I told her that \u2018Driver\u2019s License\u2019 was so inspired by her, and she\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s amazing.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is my bedroom songwriting oasis,\u201d Olivia said in a May 2021 interview<\/a> with Elle<\/a><\/em>. Olivia \u201ccreated a little shrine\u201d to all the \u201csinger-songwriters she admires.\u201d Among that makeshift \u2018Hall of Fame\u2019 were Taylor Swift,\u00a0Gwen Stefani<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Alanis Morissette<\/strong><\/a>, and, of course, Gracie Abrams.\u201d Simon Riback<\/strong>, the head of A&R at Interscope \u2013 part of the company that includes Geffen Records, which is Olivia\u2019s label \u2013 said he was impressed by Olivia and how she named Gracie as one of her favorite artists. \u201cGracie\u2019s in her infancy! She started referencing Fiona Apple, the Smashing Pumpkins. She liked the Taylor Swifts and all that, but you could tell there was a left-of-center view to the way she was approaching pop music.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grace Is Politically Active<\/h2>\n

During the 2020 election, Gracie worked as a poll worker in her area, something she told NME<\/a> was inspired by her friends. \u201cUnfortunately, for a really long time, younger people had assumed we would be OK in the hand of the older generation, but clearly we can\u2019t rely on them to shape the future that we want to see,\u201d she told the publication in 2021. \u201cBeing involved really mattered to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
