Last summer, the It Ends With Us<\/em> cast and crew were embroiled in a feud, according to multiple reports. It all started when TikTok users noticed that film star Blake Lively<\/strong> <\/a>and her co-star and director, Justin Baldoni<\/strong>, didn\u2019t pose for pictures<\/a> together at the August 6, 2024, New York City premiere. Rumors surfaced claiming that the cast distanced themselves from Justin, and fuel was added to the fire when Justin hired a crisis PR manager<\/a>. At the end of 2024, Blake filed a lawsuit against Justin for alleged sexual harassment on the set of their movie. In early 2025, Justin responded by suing both Blake and her husband, Ryan Reynolds<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hollywood Life<\/strong> is breaking down the timeline between the drama and the legal battle between Blake and Justin, below.<\/p>\n

Rumors of Tension Circulate<\/h2>\n

On August 14, 2024, TMZ<\/em><\/a> reported that there was discomfort between Blake and Justin while filming a kissing scene. Insiders told the outlet that the A Simple Favor<\/em> actress felt that the director \u201clingered\u201d too long while kissing her on camera.<\/p>\n

Sources also told the outlet that Blake felt \u201cfat-shamed\u201d by Justin while working on a scene in which his character, Ryle, lifts her character, Lilly, into the air. Justin reportedly has a history of back issues, and after he allegedly asked an on-set trainer how much Blake weighed, she felt that he was fat-shaming her, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n

Page Six<\/em> <\/a>reported that an eyewitness recalled \u201ctension\u201d visible in Blake on the set of It Ends With Us<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tension was so obvious,\u201d the source told the outlet. \u201cOnce [Blake] was done with the scene, she was really impatient, said, \u2018Am I done? Can I go?\u2019 and as soon as they said, \u2018Yes,\u2019 there was like a Blake-size hole in the wall [sic]. She was so outta there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans were asking whether or not Blake and Justin would work on the sequel, It Starts With Us.<\/em> However, a source told Variety<\/em><\/a> on August 27, 2024, that there is \u201cno world where these two will work together again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is uncharted territory, and nobody has any idea of what a sequel could look like,\u201d the insider added.<\/p>\n

How Did Blake Lively & Justin Baldoni\u2019s Feud Escalate?<\/h2>\n

According to The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>, the filmmakers\u2019 working relationship was impacted during post-production. The publication reported that two different cuts of the film were created, causing an alleged divide in creative differences.<\/p>\n

As internet sleuths have noticed, Blake and It Ends With Us<\/em> book author Colleen Hoover<\/strong> do not follow Justin on Instagram even though he follows them. And the social media activity isn\u2019t the only area where the cast\u2019s relationship allegedly went downhill.<\/p>\n

PEOPLE<\/em><\/a> reported on August 13, 2024, that the rumored tension with Justin involves the \u201cprincipal cast\u201d and Colleen.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll is not what it seems,\u201d an insider from the set told the publication. \u201cThere is much more to this story. The principal cast and Elisabeth McGowan Colleen Hoover will have nothing to do with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blake Lively Sues Justin Baldoni<\/h2>\n

On December 21, 2024, TMZ<\/em><\/a> reported that Blake filed a lawsuit against Justin for alleged sexual harassment. The lawsuit stated that an all-hands-on-deck meeting was held on the set of It Ends With Us<\/em> to address the alleged toxic work environment. According to the outlet, the meeting addressed the following demands: no more showing nude videos or images of other women to Blake; no more comments about Justin\u2019s alleged previous \u201cpornography addiction; no further conversations about sexual experiences in front of Blake and other people; no more mentions of cast and crew\u2019s genitalia; and no more inquiries about Blake\u2019s weight.<\/p>\n

Another demand that was mentioned was \u201cno more adding of sex scenes, oral sex or on-camera climaxing by BL outside the scope of the script BL approved when signing onto the project,\u201d per TMZ<\/em>.<\/p>\n

TMZ<\/em> further reported that It Ends With Us<\/em> flopped at the box office because Blake and Justin disagreed on how to market the film. According to the outlet, Blake allegedly wanted the her character\u2019s resilience to be the focus, while Justin allegedly wanted to make the focus more serious because the movie addresses domestic violence.<\/p>\n

In response to her lawsuit, Justin\u2019s attorney, Bryan Freedman, released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>, calling Blake\u2019s lawsuit \u201cshameful\u201d that she and her representatives \u201cwould make such serious and categorically false accusations against Mr. Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios and its representatives, as yet another desperate attempt to \u2018fix\u2019 her negative reputation which was garnered from her own remarks and actions during the campaign for the film; interviews and press activities that were observed publicly, in real time and unedited, which allowed for the internet to generate their own views and opinions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justin Baldoni Sues \u2018The New York Times\u2019<\/h2>\n

On December 31, Variety<\/em><\/a> reported that Justin filed a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times<\/em> over its published story titled, \u201cWe Can Bury Anyone\u2019: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine.\u201d On behalf of Justin and several other plaintiffs, Bryan filed a complaint alleging that the publication committed promissory fraud and breach of implied-in-fact contract.<\/p>\n

In response, a NYT<\/em> spokesperson said, \u201cThe role of an independent news organization is to follow the facts where they lead. Our story was meticulously and responsibly reported. It was based on a review of thousands of pages of original documents, including the text messages and emails that we quote accurately and at length in the article. To date, Wayfarer Studios, Mr. Baldoni, the other subjects of the article and their representatives have not pointed to a single error. We published their full statement in response to the allegations in the article as well. We plan to vigorously defend against the lawsuit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justin Baldoni Sues Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds<\/h2>\n

On January 16, 2025, Baldoni filed a lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds, accusing them of hijacking It Ends With Us and destroying his reputation with false allegations of sexual harassment. According to Variety<\/em><\/a>, the complaint read,\u00a0\u201cThis is a case about two of the most powerful stars in the world deploying their enormous power to steal an entire film right out of the hands of its director and production studio \u2026 When Plaintiffs have their day in court, the jury will recognize that even the most powerful celebrity cannot bend the truth to her will.\u201d<\/p>\n

On January 27, 2025, TMZ<\/em><\/a> released a voice message that Justin shared with Blake, which seems to reference an alleged meetup where a new script was written for a scene with her husband and friend Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a> in attendance. In the voice memo, Justin is heard saying, \u201cI\u2019m really sorry. I f***ed up. I will admit and apologize when I fail. I\u2019m a very flawed man, as my wife will attest.\u201d\u00a0He also refers to their presence, saying, \u201cWe should all have friends like that aside from the fact that they\u2019re two of the most creative people on the planet.\u201d Justin added, \u201cThe three of you guys together, it\u2019s unbelievable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds File to Dismiss Lawsuits<\/h2>\n

According to Variety<\/em><\/a>, Blake and Ryan filed to dismiss Justin\u2019s defamation lawsuit on January 30, 2025.<\/p>\n

Blake Lively Winds Judge\u2019s Grant to Protect Sensitive Information<\/h2>\n

On March 13, 2025, a federal judge granted Blake\u2019s request to safeguard certain information in the case. According to multiple outlets, the motion will only allow sensitive information in the case to be seen by \u201cattorneys eyes only.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justin Baldoni Sues His Former Publicist<\/h2>\n

On March 21, 2025, Justin Baldoni filed a lawsuit against his former publicist, Stephanie Jones<\/strong>, after reports surfaced that she was involved in the feud and drama surrounding the <\/span>It Ends With Us<\/span><\/em> cast<\/em>, including Blake Lively and Baldoni himself.<\/span><\/p>\n

Baldoni\u2019s attorney, Bryan Freedman<\/strong>, stated to <\/span>Variety<\/span><\/em><\/a>, \u201cIt is undeniable that\u00a0Stephanie Jones initiated this catastrophic sequence of events by violating the most basic of privacy rights, as well as any remaining trust her clients held.\u201d He added, \u201cNo stranger to stirring up crisis scenarios for departing clients, Ms. Jones maliciously turned over communications from the phone she wrongfully took from her own partner to her cohort, [Lively\u2019s personal publicist] Leslie Sloane, immediately after Jones was terminated for cause by Wayfarer due to her own wrongful behavior.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Blake Lively\u2019s Emotional Distress Claims Dismissed<\/h2>\n

In June 2025, a judge overseeing Lively and Baldoni\u2019s case withdrew her claims of emotional distress. According to Variety<\/em><\/a>, Judge Lewis Liman ruled that Baldoni\u2019s motion to compel was denied \u201cbased on Plaintiff\u2019s representation that the relevant claims will be withdrawn. Lively\u2019s request that \u2018because the parties have agreed to dismiss Ms. Lively\u2019s tenth and eleventh causes of action . . . the Court exercise its inherent authority and authority under Rule 15 to dismiss them without prejudice\u2019 is denied without prejudice to renewal. The parties shall stipulate to whether the dismissal is with or without prejudice, or Lively shall renew her request by formal motion. For avoidance of doubt, if the claims are not dismissed, the Court will preclude Lively from offering any evidence of emotional distress.\u201d<\/p>\n
