The Boys<\/em><\/a> star Erin Moriarty<\/strong> announced that she has been diagnosed with Graves\u2019 disease.<\/p>\n

\u201cAutoimmune disease manifests differently in everybody\/every body. Your experience will be different from mine,\u201d Moriarty, 30, wrote via Instagram<\/a> on Saturday, June 14. \u201cMy experience will be different from yours. Perhaps greatly, perhaps minutely. One thing I can say: if I hadn\u2019t chalked it all up to stress and fatigue, I would\u2019ve caught this sooner.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Mayo Clinic<\/a>, Graves\u2019 disease impacts the thyroid by causing the body \u201cto make too much thyroid hormone.\u201d Symptoms can include irritability, mood swings, rapid weight loss, tiredness, difficulty sleeping and a lower sex drive, among others. The autoimmune condition is more prevalent in women and tends to impact people older than 30 most often, the Mayo Clinic states.<\/p>\n

Moriarty explained to her Instagram followers that she has already seen improvement after starting treatment \u201ca month ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWithin 24 hours of beginning treatment, I felt the light coming back on. It\u2019s been increasing in strength ever since,\u201d she noted. \u201cIf yours is dimming, even slightly, go get checked. Don\u2019t \u2018suck it up\u2019 and transcend suffering; you deserve to be comfy. S***\u2019s hard enough as is.\u201d<\/p>\n

The SAG Award nominee shared photos and text messages from her Graves\u2019 disease journey, including a harrowing text she sent her mother at the height of her suffering.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m serious; I really really need relief,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI feel nauseated tonight. I feel so s*** and removed from who I am, I can\u2019t live like this forever. Or that long. There aren\u2019t moments anymore, not even a passing 5 seconds, when I feel normal. I\u2019ve never had that. Not one. It\u2019s not just fatigue \u2013 it\u2019s an ineffable, system-wide cry for help and I don\u2019t know how long I can remain in this state.\u201d<\/p>\n

In sharp contrast to that alarming message, Moriarty included another text message to her father about how much better she felt after beginning treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI already feel a world of a difference, primary thought (as of now): \u2018Damn, this is how I\u2019m supposed to feel? I\u2019ve been missing out,\u2019\u201d she declared.<\/p>\n

Moriarty received huge support for going public with her diagnosis, with The Boys<\/em> costar Susan Heyward<\/strong> and See<\/em> actress Nesta Cooper<\/strong> both sending her heart emojis.<\/p>\n
